Find the Special One with a Mouse Click

Experience true love and commitment...

If the cupid’s darts have not struck you yet, a few instant clicks might help you fall in love. All one needs is to login to an online dating service and register. This is what Joni Marshburn, 29; a Neuron Science graduate from U.C. Santa Cruz did when she decided to find her soul mate. She registered on e-harmony, a dating Web site (http://www.eharmony.com/singles/).

Joni says, "I personally do not like traditional ways of meeting people like going to bars”. So she decided to explore this hi-tech way of interacting with people. She feels “ it is good way to know people and find matches”.

She believes ‘e-harmony’ is different from other such Web sites. It makes the members go through an extensive exercise to find the right choice for them. It has 29 dimensions including intellect, values, character, sense of humor, passion on which it basis its compatibility test.

This is why Joni’s mother, Jane Marshburn, says that she could “approve of it”, as “e-harmony goes beyond age and looks” while matching profiles of people. She feels this new way of dating has a “potential of working” as it allows “one to meet more people.

Elisa Ford, a lawyer, and Joni’s friend for 11 years, feels “it can be a bit strange-sort of ripe ground for unrealistic fantasies about yourself and other person. But it is great way to meet people in our impersonal society”. What makes it so popular is that it is “convenient for modern day” as Molly Lolax puts it. So she feels it will work well for Joni. Though she is not sure how safe is online dating.

Elisa shares Molly’s fears of meeting strangers. Yet she feels if done cautiously online dating could work well. Rachel Hansen, another friend, believes that chatting on phone first and meeting at public places for first few dates could be an answer to these insecurities.

Nonetheless they all feel Internet dating could be effective. It is plausible that Joni, who is a travel addict (http://tblogs.bootsnall.com/joni//) loves reading, Hawaiian chicken, Japanese curry, dancing and blogging (http://joniws.blogspot.com/) could find her Prince Charming, who as she puts it, “ has more core value, ability to look beyond appearance and looks for woman with character.”

While Joni continues to search for her Adam, those of you who have not yet found the ‘special someone’ in high school, college or clubs could just take advantage of this latest technology called the Internet
